Testing defensive ammo, how I do it.

When you carry a weapon for defense of yourself and or others, the right ammunition choice is imperative. Over the years I have switched ammo several times, ammunition for defense has come a long way and new rounds come out what seems to be yearly. I have no trouble trying something new to be better prepared.

There are certain criteria that are a must:
• Effective ballistics: terminal performance. I get this info from research
• Function: feed, eject and slide lock
• Accuracy: for me that is can I hit a chest of a human at 50 yards every time while standing and can I, from a bench with a rest put the round into a human head size target every time
• Controllability: multiple shots / follow-up shots are a must

your guide to Every Day Carry, Bail out Bag and CERT packs – Part 1

Out on the web you can find all types of advice on “survival”, “Prepping”, or plain old preparedness. Whose advice you should take is up to you.

If you want to learn or take my 2 cents, here it is.

First let’s start with defining the different types of bags. These are my definitions and yours and others may vary, for me each has a very specific reason for existence. Continue reading your guide to Every Day Carry, Bail out Bag and CERT packs – Part 1

Be a “Good Witness” or a Victor the choice is yours

I was and have been told all my life some lies that have been exposed in the last 20 years. Yet, as most opinions that are stated over and over, they have become false facts.

For years the gun shop talk said, “get a shotgun and if you hear an intruder, rack the slide, the invader will poop their pants and run away” and “give the little lady a light weight revolver, that way she doesn’t need to worry about controls on a semi-auto”.

How to dress when you are out and about

Now, you can dress yourself how you want to, this is America. However, before you do, I would like you to take a few things into consideration.

I don’t believe in dressing overtly “tactical”. If your job requires it, that is another story, however body guards in the US of A really don’t need to look like “bodyguards”. The Office Assistant or Personal Assistant look draws less attention from the client and the people they interact with.

If you are just an everyday “Joe” going to work, visiting family, shopping at StuffMart, then, in my humble but amazingly accurate opinion, dressing tactical is undesirable. Continue reading How to dress when you are out and about

Easy way to start your physical security on a budget: Part 2 basic home ideas

In Part 1 I spoke about firearms on a budget, go hear to read that article.

This time I want to talk about a few ways to protect your home and family on the cheap.

First lock your doors, when you are home and when you leave. Put the chain on and the deadbolt too. No excuses.

With the following simple tips, a door breaching tool won’t easily or quickly work, the door will have to be split into pieces. Giving you time to escape, evade or better yet arm yourself.

On each external door get a door prop leg, like they have at church / businesses. The one that you kick down with your foot to hold the door open. Instead, put it on the inside of your doors and kick it down at night. That should secure the bottom half of your door. Things your burglar won’t tell you

While on my kick of security I came across this on my hard drive, I really don’t remember where I got it from but it is true.

1. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator.

2. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier.
